The Last Word
By: Pamela Fields Webb, Managing ditor
Issue: February 2010

February is a busy month. A lot is packed into this, the shortest month of the year. Officially, it is American Heart Month, Black History Month, National Children’s Dental Health Month, Chocolate Lover’s Month and International Friendship Month. It is also National Cherry, Embroidery, Grapefruit, Snack Food, Bird Feeding and Responsible Pet Owners month. Whew!

And, we can’t forget National Freedom Day, National Wear Red Day, Chinese New Year, Groundhog Day (six more weeks of winter!), Boy Scout Day (100 years of scouting), Presidents’ Day, Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras, and Superbowl Sunday. The month of love—don’t forget Valentine’s Day—is a busy one.

To add to the mix, this year we have the winter Olympics—two weeks of international athleticism at its best. Watching the Olympic Games makes me want to jump up and get going. Run, ski … be athletic. Try to be the best I can be—personally and professionally. I find the Olympics inspirational.

While we can’t all be Olympians, we can be leaders in our field—winning the cooperation of those around us through inspiration and motivation. In this month’s Coaches Corner, Chris Witt touches on the meaning of those two words—inspiration and motivation—and offers tips for encouraging people in these difficult times. Read more on page 56.

And, if the bottom line is your motivation, turn to page 21 to read Cassandra Johnson’s article, “The Recipe For Profit.” Her goal was to find the perfect recipe for the most profitable customer mix.

On a different note, writer Brittany Glenn in her article on page 35, wanted to find out if nice guys (and gals) always finish last. After reading her article, and hearing the opinion of several promotional products professionals, you might not think so. But, you decide if being nice pays.
